POLIS Support Team

At POLIS, our dedicated POLIS Support Team is committed to ensuring the well-being of our members. Comprised of two trust persons, an Internationalization Officer and a Sustainability Officer, our team is dedicated to providing the highest level of assistance. We prioritize the holistic development of our members, focusing on their well-being, internationalization, and sustainability efforts. With our diverse team, we are well-equipped to support our members on their journey towards success, both locally and globally.

Our trust persons

A trust person is someone you can confide in about personal or sensitive matters, knowing that they will keep your information confidential. They offer a supportive and non-judgmental space for you to share your concerns and challenges.

Our trust persons are always a member of POLIS but will not be a board member. You can go to this person to voice confidential issues, or any serious problems you’ve had with other members. If you want to talk to the trust person, you can choose if the content of that talk gets shared with the board or not. Of course, there is always a possibility to go to the board with these issues, but we hope the trust person lowers the threshold for members to interact with the association in a confidential manner. This can contribute to a safe environment for members, where they feel free to voice any problems they have with the association or any of its members.

David Hakkens

Hello everyone! I am David and together with Renee I will be the trust person of POLIS this year. I have been a part of POLIS since the start of my studies and will be an active member for the fourth year now. I study GMSI and just need to finish up a few courses to finish my bachelor. In my free time I like to play football and tennis, chill with friends and go to some POLIS parties obviously! I always enjoy the atmosphere at POLIS events and would like everyone to have such a good experience as a POLIS member as well. So if you ever have a negative encounter at an event, a problem with a (board) member or some other issue, please feel free to contact me or Renee at any time and we will help you to the best of our abilities!

Renée Vermeij

Hi POLIS,

My name is Renée Vermeij and I will be the trust person of POLIS this year together with David. I am a fourth year student at Tilburg University. Hopefully I will finish my bachelor in Organization and Management Studies this year. I’m 22 years old and next to my studies I’m currently working at Hunkemöller. I’ve lived in Tilburg for almost 3 years, but last summer I moved to Oosterhout with my boyfriend, Django, and cat, Grillo! In this past 3 years I was very active within POLIS, three years I’ve been chairman of committees, even the study-trip committee! So I know my way around the POLIS room and the Boekanier.

When I tell people I got the role of trust person, they all say: “well I get that!” I have no idea why, but I think I can do it really well. If you ever need me to talk about something or you just want to ask me something about my experience, don’t hesitate to contact me!

Lots of love,
Renée Vermeij

Our Officers

What is a Sustainability Officer?

While we as individuals only have limited influence on sustainability, there are many little things we can do to make the world a bit greener. Our Sustainability Officer will help POLIS and its members with becoming more sustainable. The Sustainability Officer will brainstorm with committees and come up with concrete ideas about how to make events more sustainable. Next to that our Sustainability Officer will write columns regularly about various topics regarding sustainability.

What is a Internationalization Officer?

The Internationalization Officer is a contact person between internationals and the board. Thanks to their outside insight we as board can gather interesting feedback on how to make POLIS even more international-friendly

Sophie Gorissen

Sustainability Officer

Hello! I’m your new Sustainability Officer. My name is Sophie (Dutch, 22) and I am a third year Organisation Studies student. I chose this study to try to tackle the “this is how we’ve always done things around here”-principle. I think that organisations have a bigger responsibility than just making (more) profit, and growing economically. People and environment are important to me, and I mean to see that organisations have the power to contribute positively to society!
So when I was approached to become Sustainability Officer for POLIS, I immediately said yes. I look forward to finding possible initiatives and solutions regarding sustainability for POLIS and its committees. Also I’d like to take you on my personal journey to live more sustainable and aware. Because everything starts with you. 🙂 I’ll devote a column to this on the website. Let’s inspire each other and contribute, no matter how big or small you think the result may be. Feel free to reach out to me!

Dragoș Glosic

Internationalization Officer

Hi, my name is Dragos, I am 20 years old and I am from Romania. I’m in my 2nd year studying GMSI and im your new international friend and, susrprising, the new internationalization officer. This year I want to get a bigger taste of student life in Tilburg, maybe I can leave my mark on the wonderful POLIS association and I want to be a helping hand for new students who need accommodation or some advice. When I dont have to constantly learn for uni, I usually watch or play some football, have a bitter coffee in the centre and a bit of gaming from time to time. So, I look forward to meeting you on campus or maybe even at POLIS activities and am available anytime you need help with this complicated student life. Cyaaaaa, Dragos
